The Shaft House at Becker Bates Mine Central City Colorado
The interior of the Becker Bates Mine with gold ore shoot. The State of Colorado in conjunction with the Berry Trucking and Excavating Inc. installed the metal grate cap in 2017. This provides safety and still preserved everything as they worked around the wood. The Bates Lode is the second discovery in the district. Theodore Becker came here from New York and purchased claims on the Bates. Three generations of Beckers owned the mine from 1860 to about the 1930's. 4 million ounces of gold were extracted from the hills of Central City Colorado. In 1876 Colorado became a state and the gold had a lot to do with that happening.
